I believe if you are passionate about a particular topic or subject, doing a deep dive to learn the skillsets for that topic would be extremely beneficial for one's progress. Having said that, it is always beneficial to learn the basics across different areas since you can then bring those experiences in your passion and can find new ways to innovate in your field of expertise. It is this reason why Micron also offers job rotation program so you can learn different areas and bring diverse perspective in your field of expertise.
